in my practice we do PRP injections with progesterone. We didnt find Acell to be that effective. Best, Dr. Emer.
The results of ACell and PRP probably factors around the cost more than the results since there are no clear consensus on even if it works as advertised. As long as you understand there is no such thing as "stopping" genetic hair loss and that you need to pay a fee to continue with either treatment indefinitely it is a decision best made between you and your doctor.
This is a terrific question... . In my opinion, PRP with Acell is proven to work with hair transplantation. There are no studies demonstrating that a Acell is necessary with PRP to increase hair thickness or decrease hair loss. Although we are now going to start a multicenter study, my experience is that PRP lasts for approximately 4 to 6 months without repeating injections or adding Acell.I hope this helps! Good luck!
Many physicians, including myself, don't use ACell. Studies have yet to show benefits with Acell and PRP vs PRP alone. The most important factors appear to be the concentration of PRP used and the method of administration.
This treatment is not scientifically proven to improve hair loss. If there is any effect it is very temporary and you need to repeat it every one or two months. It is best to consider an overall permanent plan to help with your hair loss.
Acell is a proprietary chemical meant to form a skeletal matrix so that the PRP can attract cells to it. There is no independently reproduced scientific article showing Acell as more effective in stimulating hair growth than PRP alone. For that reason I do not like to use Acell.
PRP is basically your own blood product. There are different techniques to obtain PRP but it mostly has to do with companies selling different products to doctors (and patients) claiming their method is "the best".You can still obtain PRP the old fashion way using regular lab centrifuge...
Finasteride is a drug you take to lower DHT levels for treatment androgenic alopecia in men. PRP injection is completely different. See a doctor for your options.
You need to see your doctor for realistic expectations. Just because you had a PRP or Acell treatment does not mean you automatically see results.
