Thank you for your question. it is always recommended to pretreat when doing chemical peels to avoid this type of reaction. we suggest to pretreat your skin 2 weeks before the peel with a melanin inhibitor such as a prescription grade hydroquoine. darker skin types are VERY prone to hyper and hypo pigmentation. My advice is to go to a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and they can prescribe you hydroquoine to lighten the hyperpigmentation  best of luck.

I would keep checking in with your provider. The HQ can sometimes take up to 8-12 weeks to see the results. I would keep using as long as your skin is tolerating. Make sure you are using a really good SPF daily. 

Thank you for your question and posting pictures.  It looks and sounds like you might have Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). You have multiple energy based options   If you are a skin type I-III, an series of IPL photofacials may be helpful.  We have also been very successful using the PicoSure laser with the FOCUS and / or Flat Lenses eliminating hyperpigmentation with a series of treatments.  FOCUS lens treatments have the extra benefit of reducing fine lines and wrinkles.  This is one of our go to treatments for patients older than 40 and worried about the signs of aging.  This laser is safe for all skin types.  Start with sunscreen every day!  Once you have treated your hyperpigmentation to your satisfaction, you will probably need a follow treatment every 6 to 12 months depending your level of re-pigmentation.  Best of luck.
