Most of our patients with Robin Sequence begin with a small chin which eventually "catches up". In some cases, w will perform a genioplasty to improve facial balance. A chin implant can provide similar results. In California, payment for services for cleft lip and palate expire when a patient turns 21 years of age (public assistance programs). It's worth looking into whether privater insurance will cover either of these procedures.

Hi Casey Great question regarding what can be done for your concerns of your jaw shape. Children with Pierre Robin Sequence (small jaw, protruding tongue, and often cleft palate) are commonly treated in our multidisciplinary cleft team. In adults who continue to have a jawline that is smaller than they like,  I agree with previous surgeon's posts about implants and jaw- reshaping surgery. You could look up the closest ACPA accredited Cleft Team near Wyoming and see if you can get an appointment to learn more. Best wishes

Hi and thank you for your question."Defining your jaw line" can mean many things. Often patients with Pierre Robin will have a malocclusion (or overbite) as well. Depending upon your exam, surgical options could include a chin implant vs. jaw surgery to reposition your teeth/chin.  Insurance may cover the procedure since this is the result of a birth defect, although this will very much depend upon your exam, the procedure to be performed, and your insurance coverage. It is best to seek consultation with a craniofacial specialist with experience with cleft patients and jaw surgery. I hope this helped. Good luck!
