Hi! I have always hated my square jaw line, and always thought that it was simply my facial shape. However, upon reading about how overdevelopment of the masseter muscle causes this shape, I am curious if I would be a good candidate for botox masster reduction. Can it have an effect on double chin due to lessened muscle making it appear more dominant? Also, what are the chances of adverse side effects of have the reduction? Thank you in advance for advise/info!

Answer: Botox for masseter Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. If you have masseter hypertrophy, then botox can be injected for a nice result. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Ideal candidates for this procedure have masseter hypertrophy which can often times be felt when Clinching the teeth together.
