Would it be wise to embark on a green juice fast pre/post tummy tuck surgery? (Photo)

Preoperative is very important to avoid heavy meals, because one if the most common issues after Tumny Tuck is constipation which adds a lot of discomfort and sometimes associated to clots. So couple of days of soft nutritious food prior surgery is perfect. The juice will bea good idea, but just have in mind non of the ingredients have protein, so, not a good idea as postop meal. Be encouraged dr.  Cardenas

With all due respect, a "fast" does not provide nutrients necessary for proper and safe healing, even green juice! I advise all my patients that they should be at a stable healthy weight prior to tummy tuck surgery, even if that weight is somewhat over "ideal" weight. AT least they will heal properly with the lowest risk of complications. You should be able to eat just fine after tummy tuck, but not in the (too much) quantities that made your BMI 27. I think you will be a fabulous tummy tuck candidate (plus likely liposuction of the hip roll areas--cannot see your legs/thighs), but only once you diet first, lose whatever weight you can safely lose and KEEP off, and then eat a healthy metabolic diet after surgery to facilitate normal healing.Eat less; Burn more; Do both. That's the whole entire Dr. Tholen diet book. Not a best seller, but the absolute truth about dieting--NOT green tea or other fad diets that don't realize you will eventually return to real food and real habits, good or bad.You didn't say when you are planning surgery, but it should be AFTER you lose weight the proper way in slow and safe fashion so you will heal properly with the least risks and the best results. Ideally, you want to be eating a lot of protein after surgery to help your body heal. Protein contains amino acids which are the building blocks for wound healing. I'm not 100% familiar with the green juice you are describing because there are many types.Talk with your surgeon. Juice fasts can be helpful and beneficial. However, starting anything new immediately before or after surgery is unwise.  Check with your plastic surgeon before embarking on a fast. 

Thank you for your question. The answer is no. Crash diets are never a recommended before surgery. An abdominoplasty requires a lengthy convalescence during which time your body will require additional resources and nutrients in order to heal. Patients may be good candidates for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) if they are physically healthy and have a stable weight. I recommend that you make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your surgical options and convalescence.

Any way of additional weight loss, the green juice diet, is great!!! But ALWAYS check with your chosen PS first!!!! 

Thank you for your question. I would not recommend any extreme dieting prior to or immediately after major surgery of any kind. The body needs a well balanced diet, including lots or protein, to heal properly. Some crash diets can disrupt or alter electrolytes, which could pose a serious health risk. Best of luck.

I would avoid any unusual diets or fasts around the time of your surgery.  To heal properly your body needs a reasonable amount of protein, calories, and vitamins.  Also, if you embark on a change of diet around the time of your surgery this could result in bloating and/or diarrhea, which could make your recovery more difficult.  A diet and exercise program, that you can maintain for a lifetime, will serve you better in the long run than any short term or fad diet.  Best wishes, Dr Lepore.  

That is a terrible not to mention a dangerous idea. When you are not taking in the right amount of protein and calories your body goes into a starvation mode and your ability to heal surgical wound can be seriously compromised.
