I think that I am a bit more liberal than most when it comes to activity after tummy tuck surgery. I allow my patients to ride a stationary bike or elliptical machine 7-10 days after surgery. But I want them to minimize twisting and "core" exercises for about 4 weeks. If you are riding your bike on a flat road, I think that you are fine to do so at about 10 days. But if you are doing a mountain bike course that requires a lot of core stabilization, I would hold off for longer.
This tends to vary on the type of abdominoplasty performed. With the technique I use, I usually don't recommend riding a bike for 6 weeks. I would recommend specifically asking this question to your surgeon.
I would recommend waiting at least 6 weeks as you could fall off and damage your tummy tuck. Best to follow your PS recommendations.
I would check with your surgeon, and I would make sure that you are completely healed. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA
Hello and thanks for your post. I cannot give you any specific advice, but many of my patients can perform moderately vigorous activity about 4 to 6 weeks after TT. You should discuss this with your surgeon and carefully follow their advice. Best wishes, Dr. Aldo.
I recommend waiting at least two weeks. Preferably, I think four weeks is optimal but I am very cautious.
Hi Scarycat. In most cases I allow my patients to resume strenuous exercise 4 weeks after surgery, and instruct them to start slowly. However you should ask your plastic surgeon and follow their instructions.
Most patients are OK to resume almost all activities by 6 weeks. Your particular question is better addressed to your surgeon who knows you and has followed your recovery. All the best.
I usually recommend restricting core activities for 8 weeks. For most bike riders, core muscles are used. However, other forms of exercise can be started as soon as 1 month post-op, depending on how the patient is healing. Best of luck!
The safest thing to do would be to check with your plastic surgeon. They are the ones who know was done during your surgery, any particular difficulties/ complications etc that may have an impact on when you can return to exercise. Generally, for standard tummy tucks, I encourage my patients to slowly resume physical activity after 4 weeks. I wouldn't advise a push bike straight away - maybe try a stationary bike in the gym first. The key thing is, if it hurts - stop!
Hi FNP. I think the length of your surgery is an important predictor of your blood clot risk during surgery. Certainly, hormone replacement therapy can increase your risk for blood clots, but the increased risk may be low, depending on other important factors. If your...
Your redness looks like is most likely related to a localized infection and/or delayed wound healing of the belly button. It is important to follow up with your plastic surgeon for his/her advice. Cleansing with antibacterial soap and and changing the dressing...
You were wise to restrict activity that could have damaged your muscle repair, as heavy lifting, ab exercises such as sit-ups or crunches, and yes, sexual activity that stimulates forcible contraction of the abdominal muscles, can tear sutures and incompletely-healed scar formation that is...
