Is multiple benign calcifications after a breast reduction normal? Breast Reduction was done 13 months ago.

Question

Had a breast reduction done 13 months ago. Last wk had Ultrasound and Mammogram and indicates multiple benign calcifications and small cyst on right breast. Left breast bengin spots also no cyst. Why are they there? Is this a normal thing ? No prior mammogram

It is normal to have a little fat necrosis or scar tissue after surgery, however, I have all my breast patients have a baseline mammogram prior to surgery if they haven't had one in the last year. The Radiologist can then compare before and after images.

During a breast reduction some of the breast tissue is removed, some of the breast tissue is repositioned, some of the breast tissue scars and some small area may have some fat that doesn't heal well. All that to say that it is normal to have these sort of things after a reduction.I do have all my patients get mammograms pre-op for two reasons. 1) To find any potential abnormalities before surgery and 2) To establish a base line study for the radiologist to have something to compare to.Good LuckStephen M. Yes, benign calcifications are often seen on mammogram obtained after breast reduction surgery.  Generally, it is helpful to obtain a postoperative mammogram 4-6 months after breast reduction surgery in order to establish a new baseline mammogram for future comparison.
