How long does a BBL last? Does it fade away after a while?

 Thank you very much for this question. The final result of the BBL is depending on the number of factors. Especially the way of harvesting the fat has a great effect on what we called the viability of the fat cells. This is basically the survival rate of the fat cells. Fat cells are very sensitive to high pressures, shear forces or heat. Some methods of liposuction are not suitable to harvest fat cells for example ultrasound assisted liposuction because it creates heat. So does laser assisted  liposuction. The original suction Aassisted liposuction very often has too high of negative pressure is that also destroys the fat cells. Ideally fat cells are harvested by means of water jet assisted liposuctionwhich basically washes out the cells and removes them at lower negative pressure's with no heat.  With this Technology viability of rates of 89% of the harvested fat cells have been shown. Over all if done properly 70% to 80% maximum will be the long-lasting results. I do not allow my patience to sit directly on their boat for three weeks postoperatively but they can sit on special pillow. When more is liposuctioned and more is transferred, the recovery is longer; but the result is more dramatic.  Bruising usually resolves in a week or two.  You can usually return to a sedentary job in 1 week and you can return to strenuous activity in 6 weeks. Usually by 3 months, the swelling is minimal.  The Brazilian buttlift results that are obtained after 3 months are permanent if the body weight and body fat percentage are held stable.  This is dependent upon the amount of fat transferred, the way in which the procedure is performed, and the way the patient is managed in the postoperative period.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Thank you for your question. With Brazilian butt lift we transfer fat from one area of the body to the other. These fat cells are transferred in microinjections throughout multiple planes in the buttock tissue so that they can gain new blood supply and live in their new home, providing increased volume and shape to the buttocks. The fat that survives is there permanently. Around 70% of fat that is grafted is typically expected to survive long term. We also put a little extra to account for loss of fat post operative, which is reabsorbed gradually by the body.
