I'm turning 18 in a few months and I plan on getting this procedure done someday. I plan on paying for it myself. I have one problem, my parents don't approve of this procedure and I'm under their insurance. Will it cost more if I get the procedure done without the insurance? I intend on paying for this with my own money. I want the surgery for cosmetic reasons. I have wanted a nose job for over 6 years. I have been bullied constantly over it growing up. I am 100% sure I want this procedure done

Thank you for your question.  Typically, Rhinoplasty that is performed for cosmetic concerns is not covered under insurance plans.  In those cases, you would pay for the procedure out of pocket.  In some cases, especially when a previous injury to your nose has occurred, insurance will pay to help correct your breathing problems only.  Be sure to find a surgeon board certified in either plastic or facial plastic surgery to discuss your specific concerns before making any decisions about surgery.

Rhinoplasty is considered cosmetic, so patient's must pay for that procedure themselves. A septoplasty is performed when there is a deviated septum blocking air flow in the back of the nose. A septoplasty is  performed for medical necessity and can be billed to the patient's medical insurance. Deductibles and co-pays will still apply. A rhinoplasty and a septoplasty are 2 completely separate operations, but both can be performed at the same time under one anesthetic. A cosmetic rhinoplasty is not covered by insurance.  If you had breathing issues, then perhaps the septal work could be covered. Best of luck when you decide to move forward.
