At five weeks following a tummy tuck, it is very unusual for the upper abdomen and pubic area to be extremely swollen unless a very significant liposuction was performed at the time of abdominoplasty. If that was the case, swelling will persist until three months when all swelling is expected to be resolved. If you have had aggressive liposuction, expect a certain degree of firmness and swelling in these areas. It is possible that there could be a collection of fluid under your skin and your doctor needs to examine you for that because that would represent a seroma and does need to be removed. If that is not the case, expect that to be swelling from liposuction and it should continue to improve and resolve by three months.
