Swimming or getting wetafter surgery is something that you will have to discuss with your plasticsurgeon. Each plastic surgeon will have a slightly differentpostoperative regimen. While the incisionitself in tummy tuck is usually water sealed in about 48 hours most surgeons,if they use a drain would not let you swim until the train comes out.The incision is onlypart of the story. In tummy tuck a skin that has been elevated from theabdominal wall and pulled tight needs a chance to stick down once again in itsnew location. If the skin does not stick down you can develop what is knownas A seroma a cavity. In my own practice Iusually like to see about one are two weeks of a flat abdomen with no fluidcollections before I allow my patients to swim or liberalize theiractivity. This can vary from anywhere between 3 to 6 weeks in most cases.Be sure to check inasker plastic surgeon his or her preferences.
Thank you for your post. In general, your incisions need to be perfect, all drains removed and the drain site healed perfect, and the muscle repair needs to be mature with no areas of fluid collection. If the incisions are not perfect, or drain site, then you are at risk of infection in pools, hot tubs, oceans/lakes. You don't have to have perfect incisions to shower, just not submerge in bath or the above. However, I ask my patients to wear their abdominal binder non-stop, except for showers, for at least 4 weeks, so unless you want to hang out at the beach with your binder, then no beach.
