1 week post BA. How should I clean my stitches?

Question

Can I clean my stitches with anything? I still notice some dried blood when I change the gauze. I'm a bit OCD and just want to make sure everything heals nicely and clean.

Every doctor is different I just ask my patients to shower with a bland soap like ivory or dove and than moisturize the area typically with just vaseline

I would typically leave it up to your surgeon but I understand how you feel! Use a Q-tip and dip in a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water and gently run the Q-tip over the area.  Don't force a scab off because that can lead to scarring if you take a scab off that isn't ready to come off.  Asking your surgeon how he/she recommends would be the best idea.  ac

are usually easily accomplished with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water (50:50) using a Q-tip or 2x2 to gently dab the scabs and they will bubble off.  If you're having any concerns about your incision and drainage, you must contact your surgeon for further advice.

It is always best to ask your surgeon but in general, I suggest to patients to use a mix of peroxide and water to lightly clean areas of crust under certain conditions.

I recommend gently washing the incision line with plain Dove soap twice a day then dry the incision and apply a very thin layer of antibiotic ointment before you replace the dressing.
