I read that silicone granuloma was lasered off with success using this particular laser. Can anyone help me please? Thank you.
Answer: Lasers cannot remove silicone Hi Happy, The photo you posted here appears to be some sort of ablation tool which is commonly used to remove skin tags, cauterize wounds, or resurface skin texture. After many years of treating silicone patients, my belief is that the only way to remove this substance and improve symptomology is through an open surgical approach. I realize that patients may be hesitant to undergo surgery, but I've also seen so many patients try other methods (liposuction, lasers) and end up in a worse position then where they started. The picture only includes the hand piece without other information, however if I had to guess I would suggest that his is an ND:YAG laser. The FDA states “Do not get injectable silicone or any type of filler material for large-scale body contouring or enhancement.” Also, the FDA has said Injectable silicone is permanent, with side effects that can occur right after the injection and up to years after treatment. Silicone spreads and migrates easily inside the body, which may worsen adverse events and make surgical attempts to remove the silicone oil more difficult or impossible.
