Answer: Post rhinoplasty splints Hello Marogys1978,Surgical splints serve several purposes but are not always required. When used they help to keep the septum (midline of the nose) in place. This can be especially important if you had a very deviated septum, a preexisting hole in the septum, or if a hole was created inadvertently during the surgery. The second function that splints serve is to help prevent scars from developing on the inside of the nose. Anytime there are two raw edges which can occur during a rhinoplasty, the body has a tendency to form a scar band between them. This can be quite difficult to treat once it develops so an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When splints are used they are frequently removed at the end of a week. However, depending on what was done and how much work was done on the inside, this time can be extended. Six months is quite a long time but if you are happy with your surgeon and pleased with your result then it is best to follow his recipe post operatively as in his/her experience that provides the best result. I hope this helps and good luck.
