How can I eliminate a vertical scar under my belly? (Photo)

Question

When I was 18 I had a surgical procedure that left me with a vertical scar under my belly button. I am now 29 years old .I also have imprints of the staples used to put me back together. In addition there seems to be an indentation on the lower part of the of my stomach due to the scar. I want to decrease the appearance of the scar and also remove the indentation that divides my stomach. What should I do???

You should see a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon with expertise in scar revision surgery and laser treatments of scars.  Sometimes a revision or subscision with filler placement can help; lasers may improve the texture.  I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for the photo and the question.  It appears that you could get a huge improvement with a scar revision and possibly with fat transfer to the scar to elevate the indentation.  Good luck!

I would advise a scar revision. It would appear that the skin scar is stuck down to the muscle layer with no fat in between. I would advise surgical revision of the scar to bring the fat layer to gather under the skin so the skin scar was not pulled down to the muscle layer. Please be aware that scars can often be improved but never completely got rid of.I suggest you see an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon as a proper assessment needs to be made by examining you but I suspect that I would advise surgery as above.Good luck with getting your scar improved.
