What can I do to reverse the treatment of Kybella? (Photo)

Question

I had Kybella administered in Feb of 2021. Although I was not in desperate need, I assumed it would completely eliminate any excess fat cells underneath my chin area. I understood the swelling would persist for several months, but it's been more than a year and instead of eliminating fat I now am in desperate need because I have 3 times the fat I had before the vial was inserted. What options do I have to reserve or guarantee the removal of the fat under my chin due to the kybella? Thanks!

It takes a series of treatments to get good results with Kybella. Keep in mind, Kybella is good for dissolving the submental fat under the chin area while contouring the jawline and making the chin more defined, but a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options. I recommend a combination approach with Thermage, Ultherapy, and Exilis.

Hello, I am sorry to hear the issue you have encountered. I would recommend following up with the facility you completed the treatment with. Perhaps they have before pre photos on file and are able to obtain current photos in same lighting and angle for a better treatment plan. I would recommend asking for a consultation for cool-sculpting to see if you would be a good candidate for that treatment. I highly recommend consulting with a board certified physician with experience. Hope this helps.

I’ve never heard of this treatment causing a paradoxical effect.

Your pictures are not convincing for an increase amount of subcutaneous fat.

Facial aging continues and changes how we look year after year. It would be important to know if you have any weight fluctuations since your first picture or how long ago the pictures were taken. The pictures are also not the same angles so it’s difficult to make an assessment without standard pictures.

I don’t think you have an excess of fat in your neck and chin but if you want to have fat removed Liposuction is the correct way to do it.

Fat is only one variable that contributes to the shape and contour of the lower 1/3 of the face and neck.

Bone structure is probably the biggest variable but the platysma muscle, skin, submandibular glands and other tissues contribute as well.

To get an accurate assessment I suggest having a few in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons.
