Are hard bumps below the nipple and breast area normal after breast augmentation? Will they go away?

Hard bumps deep in the tissue around the bottom of the areola after a perioareolar breast augmentation is very common and usually represents wound healing from the perioareolar incision.Many aesthetic plastic surgeons, myself included, put several layers of sutures in the tissue when closing the breast augmentation incision.  These sutures last anywhere from 30 days to 6 months, and therefore these hard bumps should last that amount of time.As far as the hard tissue in the lower breast area, this is directly related to creating the space to put the implants in.  At times, breast fat gets firm at the bottom of the breast, and also it is not unusual to have blood that had not been completed removed from the breast pocket congeal at the bottom of the augmented breast giving a hard, lumpy feeling to the bottom of the breast.It's been my experience that the two lumpy hard areas you referred to go away with time and without any intervention on your part.  With reference to capsular contracture, capsular contracture is circumferential, meaning that it occurs equally all the way around the breast implant.  If your implants move relatively easily up and down, and side to side, then it is unlikely that you are experiencing early capsular contracture.  Whichever one of the three excellent Board Certified plastic surgeons on Maui is your personal plastic surgeon, I am sure he would be happy to see you and allay your fears. 

Initially, a patient will have induration (hard bumps), but this usually
occurs in the initial postoperative phase after breast augmentation surgery.However, these bumps will ease with time and
massage.One thing to note is that if
you have very thin tissue or your implants are placed above the muscle, you may
feel the folds in the implant shell which can feel like bumps.Make sure to follow up with your surgeon if
the bumps have recently appeared and it’s been some time since your surgery.
