Chin filler for cleft chin?

Question

I have a very deep dimple chin, will fillers work in this case as I saw few things that if dimple is bound down it might not rise up. Also hearing something’s about filler migration. Please clarify

Thank you for your question. In cases of a deep cleft or dimpled chin, dermal fillers can sometimes help soften and improve the appearance by adding volume beneath the skin. However, if the dimple is tethered down by fibrous tissue, filler alone may not completely lift or erase it, since the binding tissue can limit how much the filler can elevate the area. In such cases, a combination approach (such as subcision or other procedures) may be more effective than filler alone.

Regarding filler migration, this is generally a rare occurrence when fillers are placed correctly and in the appropriate layer. The risk can increase with improper technique, overfilling, or placement in high-movement areas, but when done by an experienced injector, fillers usually remain stable in the intended location.

Overall, while fillers can improve the appearance of a chin dimple, the results depend on the depth and tethering of the tissue.

I agree that these dimples tend to be caused by ligaments, however, judicious usage of microdroplet Silikon-1000 maybe considered for a deep chin dimple. It would not completely disappear, however, Improvement maybe expected, depending on your examination. We have seen no cases of filler migration. Thank you so much! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

First, I would not recommend the use of permanent fillers, such as silicone and Bellafil as the use of permanent fillers can translate into permanent complications down the road, since there is no simple way to dissolve these foreign substances, unlike with natural HA fillers. If you are looking for a permanent solution to your deeply clefted chin that does not involve the risk of permanent fillers, you may wish to explore subcision. Subcision, which I have personally been using since 1995 has a long, proven track record of safety and efficacy for elevating and smoothing all kinds of depressions in the skin, whether from atrophy or from scarring, and I have used it with gratifying results for indented chins. It may be performed as a stand-alone treatment or combined with natural HA Lifting fillers. You would be wise to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist. The dimple i assumed is likey from the mentalis muscle. I would like to try botox with fat grafting and rigotomy (releasing the skin dimple from underlying muscle, if this exists) to address this rather than filler.

Hi dhaarni, chin fillers such as Juvederm Vollux can certainly be used to help camouflage a chin dimple, as they are designed to improve contour around the jawline and chin. As far as migration, all filler has the potential to migrate, but fillers such as Vollux have a higher G' (which means it is firmer and less spreadable), so it should migrate less, but there are no guarantees.
