After a thigh lift the most critical time of healing is in the first 2 weeks. During the first 2 weeks the incision is healing with immature collagen cells. As the wound heals the collagen is replaced by more mature collagen. In the first 2-4 weeks I would avoid stairs. I would also suggest leg elevation and minimal activity. I would suggest a compression garment 24 hrs. a day for the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. Usually, after about 4-6 weeks after your thigh lift the incision should be fairly well healed with minimal chances of wound breakdown.
Hi Sherry and thank you for your questions. Generally I advise my patients that they can start back slowly to exercise at 6 weeks and work back up to their old pace without compromising the healing incision. I do recommend being aware of exercises that put a lot of tension on the healing scars (big stretches etc) for a few months as the goal is a thin scar that will fade down. I hope this helps and best of luck!Dr. K.
