Follow-up: Is a brow lift needed for excess skin hanging over eyes? (Photos)

Question

Hello, I have been recommended a Brow lift for the excess skin/fat that hangs over my eyes from my brow. However I am not interested in my brows just being moved upward. I want to remove the excess skin/fat from them so they dont hang over my eyelids. Is that possible?

It is possible that a browlift by itself could get rid of the extra skin within the eyelid. During consultation, that can be evaluated. Doing only upper eyelid surgery could work, but usually we don't do that in someone so young. Be sure to see a facial specialist for consultation to see what procedure will work best for you.

Yes, it is possible, but the best approach depends on what is actually causing the heaviness. A brow lift does more than simply raise the eyebrows. It repositions the descended forehead and brow tissues upward and back over the orbital rim, which often relieves the heaviness that hangs over the upper eyelids.
An upper blepharoplasty may also be appropriate if there is excess eyelid skin. In some cases, your surgeon may also choose to conservatively remove a small amount of muscle above the eye and address any excess fat that is contributing to the fullness you are noticing. The extent of this should only be determined after a thorough in person examination, as removing too much tissue can create an unnatural appearance.
So in summary, yes, a brow lift would likely help with the overhanging tissue, and I would also consider whether an upper blepharoplasty is indicated. The exact balance between the two procedures depends on your anatomy and what is found during a detailed examination.

In general there is actually not much fat of the brow itself and the majority of this fullness is made of soft tissue, muscle, and skin. It is important for your surgeon to recognize which component that fullness represents and determine the best way to improve that. It is likely that a brow lift would pull some of the skin and fullness up off the eyelid itself and based on the photos this could certainly help (the opposite side looks a bit higher so could improve symmetry). The one aspect I would want to make sure that there isn't any kind of fatty growth (lipoma) in the area that is causing this excess fullness more on one side than the other. Ultimately I would make sure you discuss these concerns with your surgeon and determine the best options moving forward.

Upper eyelid hooding is often addressed with upper blepharoplasty with removing skin and a times fat in appropriate candidates.   Upper eyelid surgery the incision is made in a natural crease.  A brow lift raises the eyebrows and does not directly remove excess fat, it repositions the tissue.

You will need a browlift to elevate the brows so they are no longer below the level of the orbital rim but above. Also, a browlift can be done in front of the hairline to lower the hairline and decrease the vertical height of the forehead.

When excess skin from the brow area hangs over the eyelids, a brow lift is often recommended because it repositions the brow and reduces the heaviness pushing down on the upper eyelids. In some cases, an upper blepharoplasty may also be considered to remove excess eyelid skin.
