Severe itching 18 months post op facelift

Thank you for your question.  It is certainly normal to have some itching around the ears and earlobes as you heal from your facelift surgery.  I am somewhat concerned that it is starting now, 18 months out.  I would discuss this with your surgeon, and have an in-person evaluation.  The bumps around the earlobes could have something to do with this, as well.  This could either be some thickening of the incision, or possibly a stitch under the skin, which is trying to come to the surface. I hope that this helps!-David Gilpin

Thank you for your questions. I think that while sensory changes can be normal after surgery, having it last 18 months is somewhat excessive. I would discuss with your plastic surgeon your concerns and see if he or she has anything to offer.Good luck!

I am sorry that you have had such a prolonged itching of the ears after a facelift. While it is normal to have sensory changes in this area, your symptoms seem to be going on for a long time. After a facelift, numbness is common in this area. As the nerves start to grow back, itching, even hypersensitivity can occur. This is usually temporary, but in rare cases I have seen it take up to two years to resolve. The  lumps at the base of your earlobes are most likely scar lumps. Your plastic surgeon should be able to give you a more accurate diagnosis. 

Thank you for your question. Sorry that you are experiencing this severe itching post operatively. It is very common and normal to have some post sensory changes to the skin and nerves as everything heals and grows back. Numbness is the most common, but itching can definitely occur. As far as the tiny lumps at the base of your earlobes, you should definitely see your surgeon for a follow up. This itching and tiny bumps could eventually lead to keloiding and the itching could be a sign of this. Call and schedule a follow up with your surgeon and let them know what is going on.
