Laser resurfacing is done to stimulate new collagen production which will help to smooth out the skin texture. After the procedure the new collagen starts to grow at about 6 weeks. It will continue to grow for 6-12 months afterwards. So final result is not seen until about one year.
I see results up to a year later although I have my patients start nonablative lasers and microneedling/PRP 3 months after their co2 laser to get even more improvement. They also do skin tightening immediately like thermage/ultherapy. Best, Dr. Emer.
This is a common question I hear at my practice. Laser skinresurfacing works by causing carefully controlled injuries to the skin, triggering the production of new collagen. The type of laser, the experience ofthe provider, and the aggressiveness of the treatment are all factors thatinfluence the ultimate results. Typically patients will see the mostsignificant improvement in the tone and condition of their skin in the firstseveral weeks after the procedure, but results continue gradually improving forup to a year as collagen grows. Collagen production is most evidently visiblefrom 3 months to a year after the procedure, while improvements topigmentation, pore size, and fine lines occur immediately.
There are many types of birthmarks, but I can answer for all of them that creams will not work to remove any type of birthmark. I think you should see a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon for an evaluation and recommendations. Don't waste your money on creams.
A better approach is to address the blood vessels that are causing the redness. A vascular laser such as pulse dye, yellow light ,or q switched yag can all be more effective than Ipl.the yag also improves minor acne scars.
This darkened superficial skin should peel within a few days . If persistent the q switched yag laser can safely lighten dark skin.
