This is a common question I hear at my practice. Laser skin resurfacing works by causing carefully controlled injuries to the skin, triggering the production of new collagen. The type of laser, the experience of the provider, and the aggressiveness of the treatment are all factors that influence the ultimate results. Typically patients will see the most significant improvement in the tone and condition of their skin in the first several weeks after the procedure, but results continue gradually improving for up to a year as collagen grows. Collagen production is most evidently visible from 3 months to a year after the procedure, while improvements to pigmentation, pore size, and fine lines occur immediately.
