Laser resurfacing is done to stimulate new collagen production which will help to smooth out the skin texture.  After the procedure the new collagen starts to grow at about 6 weeks.  It will continue to grow for 6-12 months afterwards.  So final result is not seen until about one year.

I see results up to a year later although I have my patients start nonablative lasers and microneedling/PRP 3 months after their co2 laser to get even more improvement.  They also do skin tightening immediately like thermage/ultherapy.  Best, Dr. Emer.

This is a common question I hear at my practice. Laser skin
resurfacing works by causing carefully controlled injuries to the skin,
triggering the production of new collagen. The type of laser, the experience of
the provider, and the aggressiveness of the treatment are all factors that
influence the ultimate results. Typically patients will see the most
significant improvement in the tone and condition of their skin in the first
several weeks after the procedure, but results continue gradually improving for
up to a year as collagen grows. Collagen production is most evidently visible
from 3 months to a year after the procedure, while improvements to
pigmentation, pore size, and fine lines occur immediately.
