Patients with acute diverticulitis should not have elective surgery and would need to be medically proceeding with surgery. A patient would not want to have liposuction whereby post operative pain could be masking a problem with acute diverticulitis. Patients who have had diverticulitis in the past can have liposuction and should undergo a postoperative stool regimen so as to minimize constipation after surgery.
