Hi I’m 12 days post op ba surgery and my surgeon cleared me of driving after one week and I want to but am nervous because I don’t know what amount I can push or pull. I haven’t really done any lifting at all yet besides a very light purse , glass of water, plate, etc. But I was getting out of the car yesterday and pushed the door hard and now my underarm area is sore. I was wondering when you talk about no pushing or pulling does this also include car doors and heavier doors , etc? Thank you!
Answer: Breast Augmentation and Recovery Thank you for your question. Most patients can resume daily activities after a breast augmentation; the first few weeks are the most crucial where pushing, pulling or lifting anything heavier than 5 pounds is not recommended during this period. That being said, waiting 6 weeks until lifting 20 pounds after a breast augmentation is a good time period to wait. Andrew T. Lyos, M.D., FACS

Answer: Pulling a car door Thank you for your question. Although post operative instructions do vary from one plastic surgeon to another, my advice is to not lift anything greater than 15 pounds for a full 4 weeks. The soreness that you are describing is quite normal and will gradually improve as healing progresses. Best of luck.

Answer: Resuming daily activities after surgery Thank you for your question. Most breast augmentation patients can get back to their regular activities within a week after surgery. The soreness you felt after pulling the car door is normal, but be aware that you should avoid anything heavier than five pounds for several weeksafter surgery. If you are still concerned, or the pain doesn’t go away, please consult your individual board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck! Anthony P. Terrasse, MD

Answer: Post Operative Pressure. Hello and thank you for your inquiry. I normally suggest that my patients refrain from lifting, pushing and or pulling heavy weights for at least 4-6 weeks. The soreness felt from pushing the door is perfectly normal at this stage and with time and rest it will subside. Keep in mind that every surgeon has his or her own post operative instructions to follow and it is best to consult with your board certified plastic surgeon about any concerns you may have regarding the surgery in question. In hopes this has helped answer your question. Best Regards
