Unlike breast implants, the soft semi-solid silicone rubber implants used in the USA are considered permanent implants because they cannot rupture and leak silicone gel. On the other hand, fat transfer to the buttock is not only unpredictable, unreliable, and most dissolves away within 12 months but it is the most deadly cosmetic surgery out there with a risk of ~1:3000. Glad to help.
As we are learning more about the dangers of BBL (Fat injection), and as we see patients who simply do not have a lot of fat, gluteal implants are going through a resurgence. Our practice has a very large experience with these. They look great, but they have limitations. Those include movement, palpability, asymmetry. Our experience has shown that as long as size is reasonable, they do well. Problem comes when size goes up and they start acting up. We are doing more and more composite procedures that is combination of fat and implants. I tell all patients that these are not going to last a lifetime. They could, but it is best to let every one know that just like breast implants, these require future operations. The life cycle is not known and it all depends of the aging process of the patient.

There is a myth that has been propagated that implants (mainly breast) need to be replaced every ten years. Buttock implants do not need to be replaced unless they are infected, displaced, or causing discomfort.
While in the long run most buttock implants are not uncomfortable and do well, the recovery from buttock implants is one of the hardest of all body contouring procedures. The implants and the location of the incision needed to place them are in a tough spot for recovery and one should prepare...
Indeed, imbalance or uneveness of one buttock cheek relative to the other is an indication for buttock implants. However it does depend upon the volume and/or location of imbalance within the buttock cheek. Many patients actually opt for getting implants in both sides with the smaller side ...
Thank you for your question. Have you consulted with a board certified plastic surgeon in an in-person examination? From the photo, it could possibly be a flipped implant. It doesn't seem like your implants are placed under the muscle. This sort of thing can be revised with little to no co...
