As we are learning more about the dangers of BBL (Fat injection), and as we see patients who simply do not have a lot of fat, gluteal implants are going through a resurgence. Our practice has a very large experience with these. They look great, but they have limitations. Those include movement, palpability, asymmetry. Our experience has shown that as long as size is reasonable, they do well. Problem comes when size goes up and they start acting up. We are doing more and more composite procedures that is combination of fat and implants. I tell all patients that these are not going to last a lifetime. They could, but it is best to let every one know that just like breast implants, these require future operations. The life cycle is not known and it all depends of the aging process of the patient.
