The microdermabrasion is considered a mechanical exfoliation. If you have any underlying acne it may cause it to come to the surface. It is typically not the treatment itself that is causing acne, but it is clearing out the debris that is already inside the pore.

Whenever possible, it’s best to wait until your skin is clear of acne before getting microdermabrasion to avoid aggravating existing acne lesions and spreading the P. acnes bacteria that causes acne. Talk with your provider about the best options to clear your acne before any additional microdermabrasion treatments.
