Hello! I have a rectocele surgery scheduled with my OBGYN. Will this also make the vaginal opening smaller. I was hoping to be tightened and address the opening. I've had four children. What all questions and things should I tell him to address this or this something for a plastic surgeon has to do ect... I want to make sure I get my expectations addressed in. Way he understands because I'm usually really quiet and it's hard for me to explain things in person. Thank you.
Answer: RECTOCELE+PERINEOPLASTY If a perineoplasty is performed along with your rectocele surgery to tighten the perineal muscles, it can also help to reduce the vaginal opening size. Be sure to discuss the option of adding perineoplasty to your procedure with your OBGYN to address your goals. This additional step can provide the tightening effect you’re looking for. Dr. SEN

Answer: Why won't a rectocele repair tighten your vagina or reduce the size AT ALL? A rectocele is bulge of the back wall (posterior wall) of the vagina. It's caused by a break in one of the layers of tissue between the rectum and the vagina. This layer is called the rectovaginal fascia. A rectocele repair fixes this break and nothing else. The size of the vagina stays the same. Vaginal looseness is caused by stretching and damage to the muscles of the vaginal canal which are in a different layer than the rectocele, and also by damage to the muscles of the vaginal opening (perineum). Vaginal tightening and the reduction of the size of the vagina are done by repairing and tightening these muscles after the rectocele has been repaired and this operation is called a vaginoplasty with an integrated perineoplasty. If your surgeon knows how to do these muscle repairs, they can be done at the same time. If not, they can be done later. I would recommend at least 6-12 months. Obviously, it would make the most sense to seek out an expert that can do both rather than subject yourself to 2 operations and 2 recoveries. Not all surgeons know how to do these muscle repairs, but those that do are usually gynecologists, urogynecologists, or urologists who have had specific training, education, and experience with these specific repairs. You need to be 100 percent sure that they do these muscle repairs regularly and have done them many times. If they are not done properly, you WILL have major problems. Feel free to schedule a virtual consultation to discuss more details including the straightforward travel arrangements to have your work done by a top level expert.

Answer: Rectocele repair is not a Vaginoplasty or a perinoplasty If your surgeon is repairing the rectocele, it will not address the tightness of the vaginal muscles or the muscles at the vaginal opening. If you are concerned about the tightness of your vagina or the size of the opening, you should consider requesting a vaginoplasty to tighten the vaginal muscles in conjunction with the rectocele repair.

Answer: Will rectocele repair tighten my opening Thank you for your questionIf you have four children , it is likely you have more than just a rectocele. The vagina is connected on six sides(entrance or vaginal opening, apex, upper or bladder side, lower or rectal side, and two lateral sides. Each of these areas can have stretching or tearing from childbearing and each are repaired differently. A cosmetic-plastic gynecologist or a specifically trained plastic surgeon is best trained to address each of these areas to give optimum results. Do your research.results can vary widely. Look at cosmetic gynecology training, patient reviews and photos. Preferably find a surgeon trained in "site specific defect repair".

Answer: Will rectocele repair also reduce the size and tighten my vaginal opening? Hello, the surgery to be performed only for your rectocele complaint will not close the entrance to the vagina. If you have such a request, you should definitely tell your surgeon about this complaint. If he is a gynecologist who is interested in genital aesthetics, he will also perform the perineal surgery in the same session as the rectocele surgery.
