Vaginal Atrophy - never knew this existed! How can it be treated?

Question

Have been sexually inactive by choice for the last 6 years but was told by my gynae that my V.atrophy is acute, the walls are very very dry and thin. I am not on any medication or treatment of any kind,not on any pills. with my new partner sex is almost impossible.what can I do

Vaginal atrophy is a thinning and drying out of the vaginal skin produced by a lack of estrogen. Most commonly, it is an unpleasant effect of the menopause. The most effective hormonal treatment is estrogen replacement in the form of vaginal creams or suppositories usually in doses much lower than those taken for the treatment of hot flashes, night sweats and other menopausal symptoms. The latest nonhormonal treatment is laser vaginal resurfacing with either the Femi Lift or the Mona Lisa lasers.

This typically occurs during menopause or earlier during peri-menopause.  If you fit neither of these scenarios then disuse atrophy is much less frequent but possible to varying degrees.  Your gynecologist should be able to help you further on this as the menopausal issue is simply dealt with by bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.  If not I recommend consulting with a hormone/anti-aging specialist that can guide your therapy.  Glad to help.

Vaginal atrophy is quite normal when hormone levels start to decrease during menopause, although you didn't state your age in the question, this process starts at a varying age. Your best approach would be to talk to your doctor, he / she will give you choices from topical creams to hormone replacement therapy, pros and cons of each  to help you out. Don't worry, once hormone levels are stabilized you will feel just like before. Hope to have been helpful
