Can I have Vaginoplasty/Labiaplasty if I am prone to keloids?

hey my name is Jen and I want to get a Vaginoplasty/Labiaplasty because im very uncomfortable With how my vagina look and feel after being sexually active for a long time. Im 40 years of age and im prone to keloids. I have a keloid on my chest that must of came from a bump or scratch (not sure) and one time I did a virtual Consultation with a surgeon for vaginoplasty, and when he saw the keloid he didnt want to go further. This is really affecting my sex life and marriage, and this is something I want to do. I do have congestive heart failure but its being managed with no complications.

Jen—what you were told is not universally true.

A keloid on the chest does not automatically mean you’ll form keloids in the labial or vaginal area—those tissues typically heal very well, and true keloids there are uncommon. The bigger issue is finding a surgeon comfortable managing that risk rather than avoiding it altogether.

Your heart condition being stable is important, but it doesn’t automatically disqualify you—it just means the procedure needs to be planned more carefully, often with input from your cardiologist.

In cases like yours, the question isn’t “can this be done,” but how to do it safely and predictably with the right technique and setting.

You may have been turned away too quickly. A more experienced evaluation would give you a clearer answer.

Hello Jen,

Yes, of course, you can proceed with a vaginoplasty and labiaplasty. Having had a keloid formation in the past does not mean you will develop them in the labia or vagina following surgery. The incision lines with these procedures are tension free thus minimizing any chance of scarring and thus keloid formation.
