What is this rash around my incision site? (Photo)

I had a dermafibroma removed about 2 weeks from my shin. I stopped using Neosporin on day 4 because there was quite a bit of redness present and it got worse from there. I started clindamycin 9 days ago and the picture below is what it looks like today. I have been back to my Dr. and she doesn't really know what's wrong. The rest of the stitches were removed about a week ago. I just want a second opinion. No pus or drainage present, but it is a little warm to the touch.

Based on this picture it looks like you might have a bit of infection and will need antibiotics, do not apply any ointments at this time continue to follow up with your Dr.

The redness indicates a possible infection of the skin i.e. cellulitis that should be treated with a mild antibiotic ointment or oral antibiotics.

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph. Based on the shape and appearance of the rash it appears most consistent with a contact irritation.  This may have been the result of a bandage, adhesive, or ointment.  I would gently cleanse the area with soap and water and moisturize with a thick ointment.  Bendadryl and topical steroids can also be used to good improvement.  Hope this helps.

Based on your photos and history, it appears you have a reaction to something.  It could be related to the ointment or bandages or tape.  I would suggest 1% hydrocortisone cream to start.  If there is no improvement then a stronger steroid cream may be needed.
