Is rhinoplasty surgery really worth the risk? (Photos)

Question

I was meant to have my rhinoplasty op done 3 days ago & I was meant to be given a pre op med but there was miscommunication so this didn't happen. I was therefore too scared to proceed so we had to reschedule. I know the risk of dying is TINY, but it still scares me. As do complications. I am a 27 year old healthy female. Am I worrying over nothing? Here is the desired outcome. The bump has been shaved down, it projects less & width has been narrowed. I LOVE how it looks after.

The risks of surgery depend on your particular health status.  In general rhinoplasty is not a risky procedure.  The results you are seeking are reasonable.  Discuss your specific concerns with your surgeon so that he/she can reassure you.

Rhinoplasty  is a very difficult endeavor, so as extremely important to choose the right surgeon based on extensive experience producing natural results. The risk of dying under anesthesia today is extremely rare, especially with all the latest in monitoring techniques in a state-of-the-art  ambulatory surgery center. In our practice, we perform surgery in a Medicare certified outpatient surgery center and we use only board-certified physician anesthesiologists for patient safety and comfort.

The general health risks of rhinoplasty are very low for you but I am afraid it is important to realise they can not be zero and that the risk could apply to you.  You must think about this before having surgery that is to improve the quality of your life but does not have to be performed.  I am sure this is difficult to think about but it is very important.  You might find talking to your planned anaesthetist helpful. You must also remember that rhinoplasty surgery does not carry a guarantee of achieving what you want.  However if all works out well it could be really great for you.  Sorry - these personal decisions are very difficult.

Thank for you for the question! Rhinoplasty is widely considered to be a very safe procedure. As with every surgery, there are risks involved, but they are minuscule. To give you a better idea, plastic surgeons like to say that you have a greater risk getting into a car accident while driving to an office, than suffering a serious complication during a rhinoplasty. What matters is selecting an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to perform the procedure.  
An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon would be the best way to assess your situation and guarantee an individualized medical advice. Best of luck!
