What's the best showering/washing aftercare following mole removal?

I have had a mole removed from my back today as doctors thought it may be a worry to me. They mentioned not to exercise or anything like that but I forgot to ask shower wise as my aftercare leaflet says don't get it wet but I'm not sure for how long. I'm also at a spa weekend this weekend, does this mean I will not be able to swim etc? Thanks in advance!

Usually patients in my practice are advised to keep the wound dry for 72 hours before removing the dressing and showering.  It wouldn't be advisable to swim or sit in a spa due to the risk of infection.  You should seek the advise of your doctor for their instructions based on your individual care and recovery.

Thank you for your question. Generally, I tell my patients to keep the area covered and dry for 24 hours after the procedure. Then wash the area with soap and water but do not use iodine or alcohol on the wound as this may slow down wound healing. I would advise against swimming with a surgical wound as that may cause an infection. I highly recommend you consult with the provider that performed the procedure for clarification and wound care instructions. Take care and good luck.
