liposuction for many years and I have not encountered this phenomenon.

As far as I know, there is no link between liposuction and the development of thyroid disease or any other disease. Though liposuction can be risky when done by non surgeons, when done by a fully qualified plastic surgeon it is exceptionally safe, so be very careful who you see for the procedure.
