Long term effects of liposuction?

Question

I have a consultation booked and 100% want liposuction, I have maintained a stable weight for several years now but have stubborn fat on my stomach/flanks. I am healthy and have no medical issues. However, after reading some patients reviews, some people have said that they started having thyroid problems after liposuction. I am not sure how lipo could cause this so wanted to know is it possible? Are there any long term effects of having liposuction that anyone considering should be aware of?

If anyone you know has experienced thyroid problems, they were not caused by having liposuction. Correlation does not equal causation. As far as long-term expectations in your case, you can expect to enjoy beautiful results for many years to come. If you continue to maintain your weight and remain in good health, your liposuction results may well last a lifetime. There are no proven long term adverse effects associated with liposuction. There are no studies confirming that liposuction can cause thyroid problems as liposuction is generally considered a safe method of fat removal.

Most patients are very happy with their liposuction outcomes. Occasionally some will regain weight but this not because of the surgery itself, mostly they resumed poor habits and gained weight. As far as I know, there is no link between liposuction and the development of thyroid disease or any other disease. Though liposuction can be risky when done by non surgeons, when done by a fully qualified plastic surgeon it is exceptionally safe, so be very careful who you see for the procedure.
