Immediate blue bruise after lip fillers? (photos)

Question

I had 1ml of a hyaluronic acid filler about 6 hours ago. I immediately developed a blood blister and a blue-purple bruise has been persistent above my lip ever since. I am not experiencing pain, just a little bit of tenderness, however I can't help but worry that this might be a vascular occlusion since it is so scary to look at it, and I am noticing some paleness. Is this normal?

Thank you for your question. Lips are full of blood vessels and bruising and swelling is normal post procedure. This will normally settle with a cold compress. A vascular occlusion would need to be assessed in a face to face consultation so if you have any concerns then ask the injecting practitioner to review you to assess the blood flow to the area.

Thank you for your question. You have swelling, which can be resolved with icing and arnica. A vascular laser such as Exel V, and V beam will help reduce the bruising. This looks like bruising, which can be typical. Icing, arnica and cold compresses may give improvement. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Great question, 
Minimal bruising is common after lip injection as well as swelling. If the bruise is small, please give it about 4-14 days contact your current cosmetic physician to address the area! However if at anytime bruise is getting bigger or if it becomes painful please contact your cosmetic physician soon.

Hi,The lips are full of blood vessels and even very skilled injectors will give bruises. The hallmarks of a vascular event are significant pain, blanching and mottled skin. If you are concerned, you can always follow up with your injector.Best,

Hi emssily, Pain is a hallmark of vascular conditions. Though necrosis is unlikely, when in doubt go back to your injector as time is of the essence when reversing effects. Rest assured that the amount of bruising and swelling have no effect on the end results. Expect swelling and bruising to last for about two weeks.
