Is it likely that I will be allergic to all other fillers and can I get a patch test?

Question

I first had Juvederm Volift in 2015. Severe localised swelling but no other issues. I had the same product again a year later in my lips. After 4 weeks I developed a rash on my lips, persisted on a weekly basis over 6 months before improving. I had hyaluronidase a month after symptoms started with no effect. I never received a definitive answer only that I ‘may’ have had a reaction. Is allergy most likely? Thanks.

you may have vycross allergy which is reported, try restylane products or origional juvederm ultra.  nobody can predict who will get this even if you have it in the past or not (an allergy that Is). Best, Dr. Emer.

You could be allergic to the Vycross that is in some of the Juvederm V products.  Try a different brand of hyaluronic acid filler such as Restylane or Versa or different product such as Radiesse.  Hope it won't happen again!

It's difficult to say if you will have another reaction.  You may want to switch from the Juvederm product line and try Restylane to see if you react more favorably.  Though they are both HA fillers, there is variation between the products.

The newer fillers that came out from the Juvederm family have what is called the vycross technology which in my opinion may be the reason why some patients are displaying instances of an allergic type reaction. If you stick to the basic products such as regular Juvederm or Juvederm ultra and Restylane for lip augmentation, you should have no issues. Hello thanks for your question. It's hard to say how the body may react to filler again however sometimes we find by changing the range this can be tolerated better. It's worth exploring another range of filler if you are seeking treatment and my advice would be to only go to an experienced medical practitioner for any treatment particularly in this instance.
