Umbilical Stalk Necrosis? Should this need anything? 1 year post mini TT with full MR. (photos)

Hello, thank you for your question. I am sorry for your post op difficulties, skin necrosis refers to a complication when some of the skin next to the wound gets inadequate blood supply right after the surgery, turns black and scabby.  This results in a poor scar and prolonged healing. I would follow closely with your surgeon and allow him or her to dictate what to do next. Some surgeon prefer to leave the eschar intact and let the skin demarcate while others prefer to debride the dead skin.

No, it is not fine, and yes you need wound care to avoid it becoming infected and damaging more tissue. Please go back to your surgeon.

It is necrotic (dead). Different surgeons have different approaches. At this point I would likely debride the hard eschar, use silver sulfadiazine dressing changes and allow it to heal. This would be expected to takes months, not weeks. Your surgeon may choose a different equally effective approach.
