Sinus infection prior to surgery?

I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from such a longstanding sinus infection. Although the sinuses are located within the nasal cavity, an active sinus infection should not affect your rhinoplasty results. However, it can impact the level of intraoperative bleeding if your surgeon is harvesting septal cartilage for your surgery and your ability to tolerate the anesthetic. I would check in with your surgeon and possible consult with an Ear Nose and Throat physician to see if they can improve your sinus disease. I hope this helps! Best of luck with your surgery!

As with other procedures, ideal rhinoplasty candidates should be completely healthy. Because the infection is located within the nasal cavity, your surgeon may decide to postpone the procedure until you take care of the infection. The infection itself should not affect the results, but it may cause complications during the procedure and during the recovery phase. Your best option is to consult with your facial plastic surgeon in order to make an informed decision.

I agree that you should talk to your surgeon 1-2 weeks before surgery if your symptoms have not improved as surgery may have to be postponed if you have an active infection.

Contact your physician ASAP regarding this issue. It is not wise to proceed with cosmetic nasal surgery if you have an infection of adjacent structures. The risks of intraoperative bleeding and postoperative infection will increase. As the infection appears resistant to your current regimen of treatment, you require evaluation and treatment from your physician BEFORE your rhinoplasty. Surgery can proceed after the infection has resolved.
