Answer: Seromas after liposuction. Seromas are almost never seen with conventional negative pressure liposuction. There much more common one assisted by a laser or ultrasound. The thermal damage created by these modalities makes management of seromas problematic. Periodic aspiration in the surgeon's office is the main stay.

Answer: Seroma Your fluid intake will not affect seroma development or disappearance. I have had many years of success in preventing seroma by using compression garments for my patients. Gentle frequent massage is also good for prevention and treatment.if you do develop a seroma, it may be treated by inserting a needle and pulling out the seroma fluid.

Answer: The treatment of choice for a seroma is multiple aspirations The treatment of a seroma is to have the needle aspiration drained on a frequent basis until it resolves. There is a timeframe where this treatment is successful and definitive. If the treatment is done too late or not frequently enough, a chronic seroma may persist. A chronic seroma becomes encapsulated, requiring surgical excision if present for a long time. This is a mechanical problem and requires a mechanical solution. There are no medications or behavioral changes that will have any significance on a seroma. Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
