How can one minimize the risk of Infection from Medpore jaw angle implants?

Good day, I am 7 days away from getting Medpor jaw angle implants and a chin implant . Chin implant (submental) jaw angles (intra orally). My biggest concern is regarding infection . What are the rates of infection with this material and approach and are there any measures I can take personally to reduce the risk. I have quit smoking now for 2 months and have been absolutely alcohol free for over a month now to try and have the best shot at recovery. Any advice appreciated

There is nothing you can do as a patient to reduce the risk of infection.  Your mouth will be cleaned and sterilized as much as possible during surgery, and there are antibiotic solutions that can be infused into the implant to further reduce the risk (in addition to proper sterile surgical technique), but these are all responsibilities of the surgeon.  The risk of infection is typically quoted around 1% lifetime risk. There is nothing you can do personally do to decrease the risk of infection from the intraoral  placement of jaw angle implants. The only way to substantially reduce that risk is from an external skin approach for placement which would not be acceptable for most patients due to the scars.
