Breast Augmentation soreness after 15 years - what could this be?

Hi, thank you for sharing your question. Its quite possible that you may have a capsular contracture and surgically removing the capsule and replacing the implants may alleviate these symptoms, but a formal evaluation by a plastic surgeon would be helpful. I hope this helps.

The likely most common reason for soreness this late out would be capsular contracture. This happens when the normal scar tissue that forms around the implant contracts upon itself. Your best bet would be to consult with a plastic surgeon to determine if this is the case and your possible treatment options.

Several things can cause your breasts to be sore. Hormone changes after hysterectomy is one possible cause. Capsular contracture or heavy implants can do it too. You should go for an in-person consultation with your surgeon so he/she can give you the best advice after a real examination. Best of luck!

This is an issue that needs to be addressed with board certified plastic surgeon with known expertise in breast surgery. In very rare cases symptoms like this can be related to implants; unclear set of problems that are called breast implant disease. Many plastic surgeons and medical community do not accept this as a medical entity due to vague presentation and absence of detectible signs of inflammation. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear of the discomfort you are experiencing. I encourage you to schedule an evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon. If you have not visited your OB/Gyn since your symptoms started, you may return to that physician as well.

An examination is needed to see if the soreness is around the implant or in actual breast tissue. If it is your breast tissue, please discuss this with your Gyn physician. Your hormones may need to be changed.

The problem may arise from the implant, from the breast itself, or from the musculature of the chest wall.
