Hello doctors, After a mini tummy tuck with a float belly button which was moved down. Would a revision with a full tummy tuck position the belly button back up? Thanks for your expertise
Answer: Revision with a full tummy tuck A revision with a full tummy tuck can potentially reposition the belly button, depending on the specifics of your case and the technique used by the surgeon. Here's how a full tummy tuck revision can address issues related to the belly button: Repositioning the Belly Button: In a full tummy tuck, the surgeon typically makes an incision around the belly button, detaching it from the surrounding skin while keeping it connected to the underlying muscles. After tightening the abdominal muscles and removing excess skin, a new opening is created for the belly button, repositioning it to a more natural and aesthetically pleasing location. Correction of Previous Placement Issues: If your belly button was positioned too low or in an unnatural spot during the initial tummy tuck, a revision can correct this by adjusting the skin and tissue to improve its placement. The surgeon can create a new, more appropriately positioned opening and ensure the belly button appears more natural. Addressing Excess Skin and Tightening Muscles: A full tummy tuck revision also allows for additional tightening of the abdominal muscles and removal of any excess skin that may have contributed to the misplacement of the belly button. It's important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience with tummy tuck revisions. They can evaluate your specific situation, discuss your goals, and determine the best approach to achieve the desired outcome. During the consultation, you can ask about their experience with similar cases, view before-and-after photos, and discuss any concerns you have about the revision procedure.

Answer: Revision abdominoplasty Unfortunately, after an umbilical float, the blood supply coming from below the umbilicus is severed so you cannot perform a normal abdominoplasty. The umbilicus cannot be positioned higher as there is not longer blood supply coming from the muscle up the stalk to support it. Very sorry, Dr. Taranow

Answer: Understanding the concept of a floating bellybutton Unfortunately, once you’ve had a floating belly, button, belly button has been severed from its base and can only be moved by moving the skin draping your abdomen. The low position of a floating belly button in conjunction with a mini tummy tuck is the primary reason most plastic surgeons avoid the procedure. It’s generally better to learn how to create natural looking belly buttons, and put up with the undesirable scar that comes with it, especially on individuals who have significant skin laxity. The only way to raise your belly button would be a reverse tummy tuck, which may or may not be appropriate. The Procedure is not particularly common or popular. To make an assessment on the outcome of a plastic surgery procedure we generally always need to see proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have before, and after pictures and ask your surgeon to forward, the pictures they took. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
