Hello doctors, After a mini tummy tuck with a float belly button which was moved down. Would a revision with a full tummy tuck position the belly button back up? Thanks for your expertise

Answer: Revision abdominoplasty Unfortunately, after an umbilical float, the blood supply coming from below the umbilicus is severed so you cannot perform a normal abdominoplasty. The umbilicus cannot be positioned higher as there is not longer blood supply coming from the muscle up the stalk to support it. Very sorry, Dr. Taranow

Answer: Understanding the concept of a floating bellybutton Unfortunately, once you’ve had a floating belly, button, belly button has been severed from its base and can only be moved by moving the skin draping your abdomen. The low position of a floating belly button in conjunction with a mini tummy tuck is the primary reason most plastic surgeons avoid the procedure. It’s generally better to learn how to create natural looking belly buttons, and put up with the undesirable scar that comes with it, especially on individuals who have significant skin laxity. The only way to raise your belly button would be a reverse tummy tuck, which may or may not be appropriate. The Procedure is not particularly common or popular. To make an assessment on the outcome of a plastic surgery procedure we generally always need to see proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have before, and after pictures and ask your surgeon to forward, the pictures they took. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
