What is the distinction between a rhinoplasty specialist and a facial plastic surgeon?

What is the distinction b/w a rhinoplasty specialist and a facial plastic surgeon? Need someone to do a good job for my revision not sure who to go to (I live in AZ). Should I travel to another area or does az have qualified surgeons?

It is always best to do your research when finding the right surgeon for your procedure.

I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with a reputable board-certified facial plastic surgeon or rhinoplasty specialist with a strong portfolio. Keep in mind that choosing an inexperienced surgeon increases your risk of having poor results, which will only be more stressful and expensive for you in the long run. A skilled and experienced surgeon, regardless of location, can ensure the safest and best possible outcome.

Thank you for your question. There is no specific training one does to call themselves a "rhinoplasty specialist". However, you can ask how many your surgeon does per year, as well as take a look at their portfolio to get an idea of their experience level. A facial plastic surgeon is typically someone who has completed residency in head and neck surgery, followed by a fellowship in facial plastic surgery. Some do exclusively rhinoplasties and some do very few, it all depends on their particular practice. AZ has many qualified surgeons, but overall you want to make sure your goals align with the vision of the surgeon and you're on the same page. All the best.

A rhinoplasty specialist is a surgeon that performs rhinoplasty on a regular basis and has a significant amount of experience in doing so. This surgeon can be a facial plastic surgeon or a plastic surgeon. The main point is that he/she is performing rhinoplasty all the time. A plastic surgeon may be primarily a breast and body surgeon, and a facial plastic surgeon may primarily perform facelifts. Be sure to see a lot of photos of before and after, and I would imagine there are qualified rhinoplasty surgeons in Arizona.

My suggestion would be to look for a member of the Rhinoplasty Society.

Admission requires demonstration of experience with rhinoplasty surgeries.

Not all good rhinoplasty surgeons are members of the Rhinoplasty Society and not all members of the Rhinoplasty Society are the best rhinoplasty surgeons, however it is the best way to increase your odds of a good outcome.

However, at least they are highly interested in rhinoplasty surgery.

You can also ask where and with whom they learned rhinoplasty.

Some surgeons do predominantly the same technical operation on all patients and some customize their surgery to the patients anatomy and aesthetics.

The surgeon should be able to describe your particular anatomical situation and then describe how and why they will perform particular steps to remedy the issue(s) at hand. Again it is no guarantee, because one must always think on your feet with noses and especially revisions, but at least you have some sense of what they are thinking

A facial plastic surgeon is someone Who is certified by the American Board of facial plastic surgery. That person might elect to do functional reconstruction surgery, or facial cosmetic surgery. A Rhinoplasty specialist is someone who concentrates their efforts on that procedure and performs a lot of them. Rhinoplasty is the most difficult operation to perform correctly in the entire field of cosmetic surgery, so you are correct and that you may need to travel find a specialist in revision rhinoplasty.
