Does 54 units of Botox sound like an adequate dosage for forehead and crow’s feet?

Thank you for your question. Most patients in our office purchase between 20 and 40 units. However, every patient is different and may require more product. In my opinion, 54 units does not seem unreasonable. If you're concerned, consult with another provider for a second opinion. 

FDA trials have used a certain amount for forehead and crows feet treatment however dosage varies per patient. Fifty-four units is an appropriate amount to treat both forehead and crows feet.

This is a question we hear very often but Botox treatment is

This is difficult to answer without an in-person evaluating, because the amount of Botox needed to adequately treat these areas will vary. If you're concerned about dosage, I recommend following up with your injector. Botox results resolve in 3-4 months. Hope this helps.

While there are recommended dosages, the amount of Botox needed will vary. Results take 1-2 weeks. Deeper lines will need a combination approach with Botox as well as laser, microneedling/prp, and fillers. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

54 units in those two areas would be considered a heavy dose. That does not mean that it's not an appropriate dose. It would not be unusual to place 30 units total in the crows feet and 24 units in the forehead in someone that has a lot of motion and a higher forehead. It's all about customizing the treatment to the individual. A personal evaluation would be necessary to make a solid recommendation. Just make sure your injector has a lot of experience. Even if many don't feel you need that much, it is not wasted. We have found that increasing the dosage makes the Botox last longer, so you can spread out your injections.Andrew Campbell, M.D.

Thank you for your question! The number of units needed will depend on the extent of the fine lines and wrinkles and hence the need for a consult. 54 units of Botox is a good amount but i am hesitant to give you a definite answer without an in person consult. Best of luck! 

If you had your forehead AND crows feet treated then the injector should be supplying adequate Botox for the frontal forehead area, glabella (between eye area) and crows feet. Every patient needs an individual evaluation and recommendation, however 54 units for all of this sounds very reasonable.

Every patient responds slightly differently to Botox. 54 Units is certainly within a reasonable range for those treatment areas.
Keeping a good working relationship with your injector can ensure that your dose is tailored to your exact needs over the long run. If you can call the clinic where you were formely being treated and find out what doses you've had in the past, that would helpful for your new clinic to know!

A qualified and experienced physician will use his/her judgment in deciding how much of a product you need, not from a template from the maker of the product. Every patient is unique, the size, and shape of the facial muscles vary just as your individual needs. Some patients like the forehead to be totally frozen, some like to keep some natural movement. In my expertise 54 units of Botox for a woman is way too much.
