Dark scars from Liposuction - how can I get rid of the hyperpigmentation? (photos)

Question

So I’ve had liposuction done about a year ago, everything’s great but my scars are still really dark and I’m not sure how I can get rid of the hyperpigmentation? I’ve been using lytera and retinol/vitamin c it’s not working. What are my options? I also ordered hydroquinone so I’m hoping that helps but I’m not sure what else I can do

A Consultation is the best way to find out what you need, there are several options to diminish the scar through non-surgical treatments to manage a scar process. Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. ​Hyperpigmentation of any kind needs a combination approach of peels like cosmelan, enlighten and aerify along with dermarolling (EmerageSkin roller with anteage AERIFY MD ampules weekly,; lasers like Clear + Brilliant, Aerolase or Laser Genesis; radiofrequency like Venus Viva; and constant skin care and sun protection. If you have acne you can do additional treatments and peels to get more improvement. Hypopigmentation will need more of an evaluation and possibly additional lasers to get improvement. Hello, It is one of the most common issues after the liposuction procedure. Based on your skin type you may develop entry point scar tissue. Applying vaseline, scar cream in the initial stages helps you prevent these types of issues. After this long time, the only option is to do microneedling with prp. Microneedling treatment can be used for acne scars and other types of scars. Steroid injection to the scar tissue may help if you developed keloid formation. Wish you good luck.
