Hello, i have recently started getting some xeomin on my platysmal bands, although i love the results i feel like ever since i began my journey i am always getting sick-almost like strep throat symptoms. Painful to swallow and a pain that hits my ears as well. I do not know if this is a side effect but as i mentioned above is it continous for me. I have been doing this a year tops and am starting to feel a bit scared as i may be causing more harm to myself than good. I would love advice

Answer: Platysmal bands Yes, it is possible that your difficulty in swallowing could be related to your platysmal band injection. This should be temporary and resolve within a few weeks of injection. As you reported yours is continuous I encourage you to visit your injector for an evaluation. It may be recommended to also see your primary care physician to rule out other issues.

Answer: Platysmal bands Xeomin treatment into platysmal bands should not cause symptoms swallowing because the platysma muscle is not a muscle that helps us swallow. However there are several muscles under the platysma that are involved in swallowing. If Xeomim spreads to these deep muscles or is accidentally injected too deep you might expect swallowing difficulties. As far as the ear symptoms there is a nerve on the lateral part of the neck that gives sensation to the ear called the great auricular nerve it to is under the platysma and if injured with a needle can cause ear symptoms including numbness and potentially pain. I would recommend not getting injected for 6 or so months to let the Xeomin totally wear off and see if your symptoms improve. If it does you would know that the Xeomin is culprit and you might consider another injector before resuming treatments. Hope this helps.

Answer: Neck Botox Dear Stacy, If your chemodenervation injections are being done correctly and in the right tissue plane, i.e. platysma, there is no way it should affect your swallowing and give ear pain. Discuss this with your provider. Also, a visit to an ENT, dentist, or your primary care physician for a neck and throat examination is recommended as there are more serious conditions that might cause these problems. Good luck!
