Left eye suddenly gets smaller (Photo)

Question

Last week i notice my left eye is smaller than the other. I didn't pay much attention as it seems to disappear after a day or two. Last weekend i notice it to be smaller again and looks so weird to me. It feels heavy and painful at times. Please help me understand this.

Hi Belle0119It is difficult to tell what may be the cause of this without a full consultation. However it is recommended that you go and see an eye specialist to check if there may or may not be an infection present. They should then be able to give you some options on going forward with the asthetic appearance of your eyes.All the best with your investigations.

Dear belle0119,

Thank you for your clinical post and
photograph.  There are many causes for
the appearance of a narrowed aperture of the eye.  Weakness of the eye elevator called the
levator aponeurosis can be affected by Botox and this is usually a temporary
phenomenon.  The absence of a Botox
injection there are other causes of descent of the eyelid upon an encroachment
upon the pupil including swelling and edema of the soft tissue, inflammation,
infection or central pathologies.

It is very important that you rule
out some of the more serious and treatable causes of eyelid encroachment.  I would see an oculoplastic or ophthalmologic
specialist and you may need your family doctor referring this or get referred
to that from the walk-in department of an emergency centre.
