Cut on the outside of nose. Any suggestions? (photos)

This does not look like a cut to me, though the photos are blurred/out of focus. It looks to be oriented exactly at the same angle as your nasal splint edge, which you appear to be lifting a bit. I believe this is simply a bruise below the edge of where the splint lay, and above which the splint prevented bruising. Though sharp in appearance, it should not be of concern as healing goes forward. Ask your surgeon, but do not worry in the meantime until you find out for sure. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

The pictures are not very good so it's hard to tell what has happened. You should feel fully comfortable with your surgeon to be able to demonstrate your concerns and expect an explanation.

Hello and thank you for your question.  I would not worry about this.  It is highly unlikely that your surgeon would cut you there.  It is likely a streak of blood which only appears like a laceration.  I recommend that you return to see your surgeon, as he/she will have a good idea of what to expect in regards to your specific progress, since they can evaluate you in relation to your preoperative appearance.Best wishes and good luckRichard G. This is not a typical place to make an incision with rhinoplasty.  I suspect this was unintentional.  Definitely let your surgeon see this.

Thank you for your question, kari2610. No, you will not have this cut on your face permanently because it will heal. That said, you should contact your surgeon as soon as possible because this type of open wound and potential for scarring should not be apparent on patients and would most likely not be a result of a board certified facial plastic surgeon.Best wishes,

This may not be a cut but rather a bruise form the edge of the splint of from a retractor used during the porocedure. Your surgeon can give you more information.

Hello kari2610 - I understand your concern and it is difficult to say. I agree with the plan to discuss with your surgeon. He would know the depth of the cut which would have a big impact onto whether there would be scarring. Most superficial incisions will heal up fine over time. In the meantime, keep the area moist with antibiotic ointment. 

Dear Kari, This is not a normal placement for any incision. Hopefully this is dried blood or something else you are seeing. If this is a cut then I must think it was unintentional and if that was the case the surgeon would most likely have discussed this with you already. My inclination is to think that the tape was on to tight and has compromised the skin. Make sure you see your surgeon asap for a proper diagnosis and wound care is advised. Best regards, Michael V.
