I had Belotero injections and believe I may have had allergic reaction to lidocaine. Are there dermal fillers without lidocaine?

Specifically, which products are available without lidocaine? Are they difficult for doctors to obtain? My doctor is telling me there are no Belotero products without lidocaine and hasn’t offered any alternatives. I experienced intense itchiness (not just on my face but over my whole body), sore throat, and a mild anaphylaxis type reaction. Symptoms resolved with antihistamine use within 2 weeks. Thank you for your help.

In Canada, Belotero products contain lidocaine.  I do have some patients who are allergic to lidocaine and I carry some products without it.  Saypha and Revanesse have some HA fillers that do not contain lidocaine.  Please ask your family doctor to refer you to an allergist to do lidocaine testing to see if you do have an allergy to it.

Belotero does not come with lidocaine. Many doctors will mix it with lidocaine prior to use. Check to see if your doctor mixed the product with lidocaine. If she/he did then they can try it in the future without the lidocaine.

Belotero Balance, which is currently the only Belotero product available in the United States does not contain lidocaine in it. Restylane is available with and without lidocaine.
