I noticed more redness of my upper lids and stopped that evening. Unfortunately, I have some very unsightly bruising now under the eyes and want to make sure it's nothing serious and will go away. The photo is one week after surgery.
Answer: Ibuprophen and bruising after blepharoplasty Ibuprophen, aspirin and blood thinners can lead to increased bruising after any type of surgery. The bruising should be temporary and not change your ultimate result. Oral and/or topical Arnica may help the bruising resolve faster.

Answer: Bruising after Blepharoplasty I take my patients off of ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamins and herbs for three weeks prior to surgery and several weeks after as it increases bleeding and bruising. This is in my patients preoperative and post operative documents and reviewed with them at their appointments. Ask your surgeon about using some arnica topical and by mouth to reduce the bruising and sleep elevated and your swelling and redness should dissipate in the coming week. Please advise your surgeon you have taken these medications and see him/her for follow up. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
