Post Fraxel swelling - Should I be concerned?

Swelling's common with Fraxel especially the 1550nm setting.  Hard to assess your swelling without a picture but I will say risk of infection is incredibly low with Fraxel given that it is nonablative.  Regardless, they are covering you with abx and a systemic corticosteroid.  Just continue to follow-up with them until your swelling resolves.  Best of luck!

Without a photo it is difficult to access whether the degree of swelling and redness is out of the range of normal. A fair amount of redness and swelling can be present, especially with a 1550 settings, for the first few day.  Continue to ice and keep your head elevated and follow up with your physician for any further medical advice.

Swelling can occur after laser resurfacing and in some people can be significant. We usually tell patients to sleep elevated and sometimes go the route of oral steroids if absolutely necessary. Continue to keep in touch with your doctor so that he can make sure you are healing well and according to plan. 

I assume its the Fraxel Dual you are talking about. Swelling can be the worst on day 2. Sleeping elevated on 2-3 pillows is helpful in addition to what they have placed you on. However, it the skin is tender and getting redder, this would be a sign of infection and needs to be seen. Cephalexin is not a very powerful antibiotic and is not very effective against bacteria these days. Have good communication with your doctor to get the best outcome.
